I use Nature's Variety Instinct canned as a mix in with Orijen kibble. The texture of this canned food is exactly what I need to completely mix throughout. It's like a pate'. The dogs love it and it's the highest quality canned food that I've found. I feed Boxers and Poodles

5. Trina on 7/1/2008, said:

My dog loves this canned food above all others I have tried. She is finicky, but this one entices her to eat it pretty much right away.

Calories: This food contains 3,550 kcal per kilogram or 405 kcal per cup ME (metabolizable energy) on an as fed basis (calculated).

Transitioning to Wellness: It is important to slowly transition your dog from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

Determining Feeding Portions: Looking at the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your dog per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Wellness believes in feeding dry and wet food in combination whenever possible to help increase the level of water in your dog's diet.

Nutrition is only one part of the equation! Be sure to give your dog plenty of love, plenty of exercise and see your veterinarian regularly to help ensure total wellness.

Recommended Feeding Portions (Based on a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup)

Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information below as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed.

  WEIGHT OF DOGS (LBS)   CUPS/DAY
  3-17 ¼ - 1
  18-23 1 - 1¼
  24-45 1 ¼ - 2
  46-65 2 - 2 ½
  66-85 2 ½ - 3
  86-105 3 - 3 ½
  106-125 3 ½ - 4

For dogs over 125 lbs:
Add ¼ cup per additional 10 lbs.
For Puppies and Pregnant or Nursing Dogs:
Feed 25% more than the amounts listed.

Combination Feeding
If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/3 cup for every 6 oz of wet food.

This is a great product for dogs that have allergies to certain foods. The dogs like this formula and their coats and skin are very healthy.

4. Deborah on 8/14/2009, said:

Pricey, but worth it if you have dogs suffering severe food allergies. Our yellow lab/golden retriever mix siblings were on this for about a month and the improvement was dramatic. We mix it now with a completely raw diet as they grew to dislike the consistency (it's a powder basically) and served wet or dry, they lost their desire for it; however mixed with the raw food daily they eat it just fine. And the licking/itching is now gone - as well as the female's frequent ear infections. Great stuff!

5. Misty on 7/6/2009, said:

Product does not mix well or hydrate as well as the dehydrated mixtures from HOnest Kitchen.

My Cocker Spaniel puppy had horrible gas from the puppy chow I was originally feeding. After some research I decided to try this limited ingredient food. No more gas! And he really loves it. Thanks Pinnacle! The only thing I'd feel even better about would be the inclusion of organic ingredients in this holistic product.

2. Greta on 10/31/2009, said:

I have been experimenting with making my own homemade raw meals for my Bernese Mountain Dog, but nothing seems to give her so much energy and lift as Addiction dog food. Right now the biggest winners seem to be the ones with brushtail like New Zealand Forest Delicacies and Perfect Summer Brushtail.

3. Linda on 10/9/2009, said:

My dogs are the most finicky things but will eat this over any other food (dog, that is) with the exception being canned food.

4. Rebecca on 10/2/2009, said:

I tried the dogs on this as the brushtail was out and they did great on it and liked it just as much as the brushtail. This of course also has brushtail in it.

5. Alissa on 6/16/2009, said:

again, my shiba loved this food - she would start salivating when she saw me dish out and mix up this food. she seemed to like this flavor best above all the others i ordered. i also like how it is hypoallergenic, as she tends to have some food allergies (thankfully, not severe). between the dehydrated food and her kibble, i hope to see a significant change in her weight. her poop is always smaller and much less smelly being on this than her old food.

These guideline amounts are a starting point. Begin feeding puppies NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy food when they begin to nibble, usually 3 to 4 weeks of age. Keep moistened food available at all times until puppies are weaned. After weaning, feed moistened or dry several times per day. Decrease feeding times and amounts as puppy grows, ending with a routine of two regular feedings per day. Vary the amounts to suit the age, growth stage and activity level to maintain optimum weight. One 8 ounce measuring cup contains 4.4 ounces/125 grams of NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy. Provide clean, fresh drinking water daily.

After doing some research i stumbled upon this wonderful pet food manufacturer. I decided to give it a go. I have a picky German Shepard who wont eat just anything. I gave her a can of the Rabbit mixed with her usual Dry food and the food vanished instanly. She loves it, all of the flavors. Her coat is soft and shiny, and is not fattening her up. I highly reccommend this food. It is also good to see it is made in the good ole Midwest USA.

Sudden changes in diet can sometimes result in digestive disturbances. Do not overfeed regardless of the pet’s acceptance and eagerness. Overfeeding is the most common cause of digestive upset. Always introduce any new diet over a period of days, mixing with the present diet. Keep fresh water available at all times and offer plenty of exercise.

Two out of my three dogs eat this and seem to love it. Plus, their coats are very healthy.

2. Vicki on 8/21/2009, said:

Wonderful food for any dog. I am a petsitter and noticed when any dog ate this food, they didn't get loose bowels from eating a new food. My dogs love it too.

3. Gina on 2/5/2009, said:

A very nice food. The one dog with allergies experienced no reactions, his ears and skin are great. The other two have no allergy issues but are a little fussier and did not like the venison as much as the other protein sources offered by this manufacturer.

4. Susan on 2/25/2008, said:

I believe venison is now my dogs' favorite flavor of food.
