I have a small yorkie, she likes this food and the size is small. She doesnt chew real well so this food works better than some of the others for her. Overall the change from her other food to is going well. No upset tummies.

The kibbles are small so my medium-sized dog doesn't do much chewing. Taste-wise she seems to like it.
It's not easy to find a grain-free, reduced fat kibble!

We have 3 rescued Italian Greyhounds that we love very much. One of our dogs has suffered with grand mal seizures since we rescued him. I knew his food should not contain by-products, but only recently found out that grain can also be a problem.
Once we put our dogs on Now! our Fresco has not had a single seizure. Thank you so much for producing a healthy dog food that all three of our dogs LOVE! You definitely have new customers in us!

When to feed CORE:
Perfect for everyday feeding, mixing with raw, supplementing raw or replacing raw while traveling.
Who Should Eat CORE:
The nutrient levels of this food are appropriate for adult dogs over 1 year. We do not recommend feeding this formula to puppies as they have special nutritional requirements during their growth stage. Please try our Wellness Puppy Food to meet these unique needs.
How to Feed CORE:
CORE is highly palatable, so your dog may tend to eat more of this food.
Watch initially to see if you need to adjust regular eating patterns. Please give your dog access to clean, cool fresh water at all times.
It is important to slowly transition your dog from his/her current diet as it takes awhile for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness CORE each day, so that you are feeding 100% new food by day 7.

Dixie likes this dog food and eats it well. Her coat has regained its shine and her joint problems continue to improve.
Her stools are too soft but I don't know if this is because of the Wellness JFS food or other underlying health problem. I am hoping that this problem will correct itself as she continues to eat the JFS. If it does, I would give this dog food 5 stars.
The wise ones of the dog kingdom remember when dog food was a quarter, bones were free, and drinking from water hoses wasn’t taboo. For crying out loud we now have bottled water for dogs, day spas and gourmet pet food, what is the world coming to? So we had the crazy idea to create a favorite medley of flavors that is sure to remind them of yesteryear when they once were Homecoming Queen. Who says growing older means you have to eat bland food, consume massive amounts of fiber, play canasta and do water aerobics? The Merrick family says live life to the fullest, ditch the dentures and use what your parents gave you, these are the golden years!

How much food your dog eats is dependent upon size, level of activity, stage of reproduction, and environment. When feeding in measured amounts, feed according to the weight of your dog. Use this table as a GENERAL GUIDE to determine how much Merrick Five-Star Gourmet to feed your dog.
*For dogs over 100 lbs.. add 1/2 cup of dry dog food for each additional 10 lbs. Adjust feeding level to your dog's individual needs. Puppies and nursing females may consume two or three times the recommended amount per day. Keep fresh water available at all times.

ORIJEN Senior - Biologically Appropriate for All Breeds
As dogs age, their bodies become less efficient at metabolizing the proteins that are vital to maintaining lean muscle mass and overall wellness. In addition to increased dietary protein, senior dogs typically require fewer calories than younger dogs, and fewer carbohydrates help improve insulin resistance.
ORIJEN SENIOR has a Metabolizable Energy (ME) of 3750 kcal/kg or 395 kcal per 250ml cup (105g). Calories are distributed to promote peak physical conditioning with 40% from protein, 25% from fruit & vegetables and 35% from fat.
She ( Onyx, my older German Shepherd ) wouldn't hardly eat it and she kept the runs. I moved her back to the Orijen Puppy Food and she is doing ok now.

my dog had been eating senior Canidae. I switched hopeing that it would help and itching problem, but it didn't. It's a very high quality food and buying from k9cuisine was very, very easy - fast, free shipping - so I probably will return as a customer. Thank you.

I have a small yorkie, this food is too large and hard. She doesnt chew well. She will swallow it whole but doesnt seem like a good thing to do. Otherwise she likes flavor.
4. Jelinda on 6/4/2009, said:
Their senior formula has changed! My bag ordered 5/09 shows a different formula on the bag. 40% protein, 15% min. fat less kcals than before, 20% carbohydrates now. It smells very fishy (more fish near the top of the ingredient list now) and my dogs' poops are smelly and dark; my dogs are having gas since starting this bag. I have fed Orijen Senior for over 1 year, but we are leaving. I emailed the company to ask about the formula change, and other than an automated reply, nothing. We're leaving Orijen.

I wanted to switch my dogs to a better food. They love the taste of this one.
It may not have enough fiber for one of my dogs-she was on prescription diet food. She loves this food but has gained a few pounds. I will be trying this for a while and see how she does.
An excellent well-rounded starting point for older dogs, but for best results, rotate with other Wysong Diets and fresh foods as described in the Optimal Health Program.
This food has made all the difference with my ten year old schipperke. Not only has he lost 4lbs, but he has returned to the activity level of a young dog. He has been on ysong since 4/08
