Active dogs require more in their diet, which is often available in foods geared especially for them. It doesn’t matter whether your dog is active by design – a terrier, for example – or is just an individual go-getter. Active dog food provides calories or energy that is required for a fit and healthy pet.
Legacy Adult Dog Food - Horizon Legacy is an innovative grain-free pet food that applies the same nutritional philosophies of a raw diet but in a convenient super-premium kibble. This ancestral diet, grounded in an historical understanding of your pet’s nutritional needs, contains an abundance of fresh, human grade meats combined with fruits, vegetables, unique botanicals and supplements all designed for immune health.
Fresh chicken meat chicken meal salmon meal turkey meal pea starch concentrate green split peas chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols, rosemary, citric acid)
Plusses: Grain free, no canola oil, big chunks so my dogs actually chews her food. Just switched her to this from Timberwolf. She seems to be doing great on it.

I switched my five border collies to Legacy after Orijen changed their formula for adult dogs. We have been very happy with the switch. They eat the kibble plain, maintain muscle and weight, no gas, firm stools, nice coats. What more could an owner ask for?
4. Gloria on 11/3/2009, said:
The ingredients are great, and our dog likes it. However, he is not as enthusiastic as he is with Orijen.

ORIJEN Adult Dog Food - Biologically Appropriate for All Breeds
By nature, all dogs are facultative carnivores - they thrive on a varied diet of meats with smaller amounts of fruits, vegetables and grasses, and are biologically adapted to process proteins as an energy source.
High-protein and low-carbohydrate, ORIJEN ADULT's grain-free formula replicates the same rich balance of meats, fruits, vegetables and grasses that dogs would encounter in a wilderness setting.
Fresh Regional Ingredients - Fresh boneless chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, russet potato, fresh pacific salmon (a natural source of DHA and EPA), herring meal, sweet potato, peas, fresh lake whitefish, fresh northern walleye, chicken fat (naturally preserved with vitamin E and citric acid), chicken liver, salmon meal, fresh turkey, fresh whole eggs, fresh deboned herring, sun-cured alfalfa, salmon oil, pumpkin, carrots, spinach, turnip greens, apples, cranberries, sea salt
ORIJEN ADULT DOG has a Metabolizable Energy (ME) of 3900 kcal/kg or 450 kcal/250ml cup, with 50% from protein, 25% from fruit & vegetables and 25% from fat.
A bit pricey, but we have a mini dachshsund that guards the bag from her sister and our kitty! She definitely
gives it a 5!

Excellent quality. Both my dogs gobbled it up. This product was recently rated the low glycemic award for the best dog food. Measure by weight to be sure it's euqivalent to measure of previous food or you will notice blood sugar is up in diabetic pet. You actually may get more food per measured cup due to small pellet size. Only con is I'd prefer less or no glucosamine supplement in ingredients.

My dog is your typical dog - she will eat anything, anytime, anywhere. We had her on a store brand for a while which she always gobbled up, but after extensive research we switched to this about 6 months ago. She loves it SO much that if we ever try to substitute anything else for it (like if we're bad parents and have forgotten to order another bag before we run out) she will not eat! This is from a dog who historically has no problems eating anything edible so it just speaks volumes on how excellent this food is and the caliber of quality it delivers. We introduced it slowly (mixed with her previous food for about a week) and at first she had a little gas, which is natural, but it's helped immensely with her breath, given her even MORE energy (she is 9 but still acts like a puppy!) and also made her poo more solid which makes it easier to pick up. It's a little pricey, but one 30 lb bag typically lasts us about 2 months (1 feeding/day) and shipping is free! I would recommend in it a heartbeat!

The food is nice and organic, but my dog hate it. She didn't like the smell of it and wouldn't even try to eat it. I wish she did though. Someone at K9 told me that I can send this back, because they have satisfaction guarantee. However, the person never scheduled a pick up for me. The dog food is still sitting at home. Sigh.

I have a very active, non-neutered yellow lab who needs the extra protein in this formula. My goal was to put some extra weight on him, and this formula did the trick.

Both of my labs, 1 and 11, responded very well and seem to love the food. Stools are good also. Has a nice balance of ingredients.

My dogs absolutely LOVE this food. One of my dogs is an English Pointer who is a little finicky and always looks like she's on a starvation diet because she's so skinny. But I've finally been able to put a little weight on her with this food. She's solid muscle and runs for hours and hours!

I don't think there is any food or treat that both my dog and cats love more... I wonder what's in there...it seems to be addicting... LOL Just kidding...this is expensive but amazing stuff. I sprinkle it on my dogs food when it doesn't want to eat; that does the trick...infallible..!!
