It is now well established that high intake of protein and fat during growth can lead to health problems in adult dogs. Obesity and skeletal disorders, especially hip dysphasia are more common ailments associated with excesses. Rapid growth can result in excessive muscle mass putting strain on immature bones.

Excellent food; we find feeding this quality kibble decreases visits to the vet. Once grain was eliminated from the diet, ear infections were gone. Our English Mastiff is thriving as the calcium is perfect and we are careful to not over-feed.

I have been feeding my 12 month old Newfoundland Artemis fresh mix med/large breed, but wanted to try sometihg different. As soon as I put this in front of him, he gobbled it up! He seems to like this much better. I'm not sure how I feel about the high protien content, I will probably continue to mix this with Artemis for a while and see how his growth tracks, but he gives it two paws up!

I have 5 dogs and they all eat Orijen, one of them the Senior. They all love it. There is never one piece left on their plates. In fact, I often give them a couple of peices as treats because they like it as much as the treats. My senior dogs is a very picky eater but she never turns down Orijen. The 5 y.o. male Staffordshire Bull Terrier and the 3 y.o. female Pit Bull mix both love this. If anything, it is too nutrient and protein rich. Their feces is harder than with other foods. I chose this due to the listing of ingredients, because 'meal(s)' were listed below the non-meal forms of each fish, signifying to me a higher grade of food.

My pomeranian deals with occasional colitis, so I've tried to find her a high quality food that doesn't contain any unnecessary grains for a dog's diet. Although she still seems to have these episodes, she loves the food and I will continue to use this brand.

Best Dog Food there is next to feeding RAW

5. Nicole on 8/18/2009, said:

We use this as a treat, rather than a primary food, because the calcium content is too high for my large breed pup - so I can't comment on quality as a primary source of nutrition - but he LOVES the flavor. It's one of few kibbles he'll eat dry without canned or homemade toppers.
