For a dog that has difficulty digesting animal protein, this is a good alternative. It is also higher in fiber. I generally mix it with a vegetarian kibble, and voila! Happy dog. Weird dog, since dogs weren't "designed" to be vegetarians, but whatever works.

My dogs seem to like the Vegetarian Dinner, I add some to their dry kibble, to give their food extra flavor and nutrients, or give to them soley as a mini meal during the day. I think the quality is good, and my dogs have had no problems on it.

We recommend that you do not add vitamins, minerals or any other supplements, except upon the advice of a veterinarian. When switching your dog's diet, the change should be made gradually, by replacing the current food with increasing portions of Natural Balance® Ultra Premium Vegetarian Formula. The change should be completed after 5 to 7 days. The maintenance of proper body weight is most important for your dog's health. Consult your veterinarian for specific weight recommendations for your dog. Remember, fresh clean water should be available at all times!
The Adult dogs should be fed either once or twice per day. When you first start feeding Natural Balance® Vegetarian Formula, we suggest to start with the amounts recommended in the Table. Energy requirements vary with environmental conditions, temperature and activity of your dog. The amount of food should always be adjusted to suit your dog’s needs.
Working Dogs Based on the work your dog will be asked to perform, the nutritional requirements will vary accordingly. As the work load increases, the demand for protein and fat increases proportionally. Dogs in hard training will generally require twice the maintenance levels.
The Older Dog As your dog begins to age, his energy expenditure will decrease. Decreasing the amount of food accordingly will allow for the maintenance of proper body weight for less active dog.

I am so pleased to have discovered Natural Balance vegetarian formula. I give it to my dog mixed with the bison and sweet potato formula. Together, they keep my dog healthy, and I do not contribute to the cruelty of factory farming of animals.

It's taking my dog longer to adjust to this new food than she usually does when just changing brands. I'm still putting a few pieces of regular kibble (till it runs out, which it nearly is all gone)in with the new veggie formula because she's having looser stools. I'm confident her digestive system will adjust to the new veggie formula. She seems to like the taste okay, but doesn't act overjoyed by it. I'm hoping that by the time her old formula is completely gone and she's 100% on the veggie formula, she will both like it a lot and her tummy will be accustomed to more fiber. It's a major change, but a necessary one.
