CANIDAE Dog Foods Made in the USA

At CANIDAE Pet Foods we have created our All Life Stage Formulas for your dogs called CANIDAE. This dog food formula is true, All Natural, All Life Stages, feral type diets that provide optimum nutrition for the ones you love.

In nature your pets couldn’t choose between a puppy, adult, or light formulation, only a diet of mainly meats and small amounts of grain. They simply eat more or less, depending on age and activity levels. CANIDAE and FELIDAE both contain more than 50% of high quality meat proteins. We have also included digestive enzymes that closely resemble those found in nature.

Puppies up to 6 months old may be fed 3 to 4 times daily.  Puppies six months to a year may be fed twice daily.

Feed Pregnant Dogs up to 50% more during the last 3 weeks of pregnancy.  Nursing mothers require twice the amount of food as suggested in the daily guidelines and may be fed 3 to 4 times a day.

The above Daily Feeding Guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food suggested to be fed on a daily basis. If you feed more than once per day, simply divide the Daily Feeding Guidelines by the amount of times fed per day.

My dogs absolutely LOVE this food. One of my dogs is an English Pointer who is a little finicky and always looks like she's on a starvation diet because she's so skinny. But I've finally been able to put a little weight on her with this food. She's solid muscle and runs for hours and hours!

4. Kent on 9/22/2009, said:

Zip lock seal on the bag is a ++++++++.

5. Timothy on 9/21/2009, said:

i tried this free because of a special that K-9 Cuisine was having and both of my dogs (Aussie and Cardi) absolutely love it. It is a great dog food.

Sudden changes in diet can sometimes result in digestive disturbances. Do not overfeed regardless of the pet’s acceptance and eagerness. Overfeeding is the most common cause of digestive upset. Always introduce any new diet over a period of days, mixing with the present diet. Keep fresh water available at all times and offer plenty of exercise.

Natures Variety food is excellent! My rottie is a spoiled princess and she goes crazy over all their flavors of food, as much so as if she is getting steak. I love love this product!

I have a pit/boxer mix that i was feeding Solid Gold. The puppy food was good but the adult food gave her really bad gas. I switched to Canidae and the gas problem isnt as bad as Solid Gold but still isnt good. Maybe its my dog.....anyway, the product is good just not good for my dogs stomach.

Pretty decent. The bites are very large, almost too large for my beagle/boxer mix (40 lbs). She likes the food and even eats with a anti-bloat bowl, but if she eats too quickly, the bites are so large she occasionally gets sick.

Calories: This food contains 3,570 kcal per kilogram or 407 kcal per cup ME (metabolizable energy) on an as fed basis (calculated).

Transitioning to Wellness: It is important to slowly transition your dog from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

Determining Feeding Portions: Looking at the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your dog per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Wellness believes in feeding dry and wet food in combination whenever possible to help increase the level of water in your dog's diet.

Nutrition is only one part of the equation! Be sure to give your dog plenty of love, plenty of exercise and see your veterinarian regularly to help ensure total wellness.

Recommended Feeding Portions (Based on a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup)

Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information below as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed.

  WEIGHT OF DOGS (LBS)   CUPS/DAY
  3-17 ¼ - 1
  18-23 1 - 1¼
  24-45 1 ¼ - 2
  46-65 2 - 2 ½
  66-85 2 ½ - 3
  86-105 3 - 3 ½
  106-125 3 ½ - 4

For dogs over 125 lbs:
Add ¼ cup per additional 10 lbs.
For Puppies and Pregnant or Nursing Dogs:
Feed 25% more than the amounts listed.

Combination Feeding
If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/3 cup for every 6 oz of wet food.

I have read Great things about this food and was excited to try it but I slowly mixed it into all four of my dogs diet (they ate Canidae prior to this) and they all started having tummy troubles... Vomiting, etc. I took them all to the vet thinking it was something else, but all checked out normal. I put them back on Canidae and they're doing fine. I'm sure this food is great b/c I hear wonderful things about it, but it just didn't work out for my dogs.

Dogs were very finicky with this food I do not recommend

2. Tommy on 7/7/2009, said:

Our dogs really like this food and the fact that it doesn't have corn etc.

3. Sarah on 4/30/2009, said:

I received my package yesterday. In it was a sample of this stuff. My brother's shih tzu picked this sample out of the bunch and put a hole in the bag. So, I decided to go ahead and let her have it. She and my two chihuahuas loved it. They are all very picky eaters too. I was very pleased. It doesn't have a fishy or bad smell like other dog foods we've tried. This one is a great one to get, especially if you normally don't feed your dogs beef or fish (like me). It is important for dogs to have a variety of meats in their diets.

4. Jocelyn on 3/19/2009, said:

It gets a 5-star rating from our mastiff pup!

5. Teri on 3/3/2009, said:

I'm sure it is a good food but one of my dogs did not do well on it. I think maybe it just has too many ingredients, he seems to do better on the lesser ingredient foods.
