Merrick Made in the USA

Turducken - Dry Dog Food

This bayou classic allows dogs to get in touch with their southern senses. We all know that Napoleon did us a favor with the Louisiana Purchase at 3 cents an acre but we have to believe that if he could have foreseen the mixed breed that is Cajun cooking coming that even he would have thought twice about his most famous garage sale. The delicious combination of all these flavors cooked together makes even vegetarians reconsider their pledge. It’s time that all of our dog friends had a taste of this Cajun Treat. The Merrick’s would like to toast Napoleon, so finish this entrée off with his dessert’s namesake and thank the French for their charity – strike that, thank our forefathers for absolutely owning them!

Puppy Plate - Dry Dog Food

It’s the first lick, the wobbly crawl and the cut on your finger from putting it in their mouth when you shouldn’t have. These soft, cuddly friends come into our lives, and we grow with them. They become our friends long before they are housebroken, stop tearing things up and crying in the middle of the night. So we cooked up a special dish with lots of TLC that we think transitions them nicely from their momma’s milk and welcomes them to earth but still with a firm handshake. At Merrick we call it Puppyhood and without Merrick in their life, well it’s pretty much boredom. So skip the national grocery brands and stop sheltering them because they’re gonna grow up sooner or later and find Merrick on their own so you might as well have the “talk” now. The Merrick’s say “send us some pics of the new pups and we’ll add them to our album.”

Puppies loved it! They're eating 'em up! One dog doesn't like the the dried veggies, but the addition of the new puppy produces food pressures, and now they both eat their veggies. Yey!

    Who Should Eat CORE:

The nutrient levels of this food are appropriate for adult dogs over 1 year. We do not recommend feeding this formula to puppies as they have special nutritional requirements during their growth stage. Please try our Wellness Puppy Food to meet these unique needs.

    How to Feed CORE:

CORE is highly palatable, so your dog may tend to eat more of this food.

Watch initially to see if you need to adjust regular eating patterns. Please give your dog access to clean, cool fresh water at all times.

It is important to slowly transition your dog from his/her current diet as it takes awhile for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness CORE each day, so that you are feeding 100% new food by day 7.

Perfect for everyday feeding, mixing with raw, supplementing raw or replacing raw while traveling.

BUT WHEN I PUT DUCK,CHICKEN OR ANY OTHER WET FOOD BY WELLNESS OTHER THAN FISH HE EATS IT. HE WILL EAT IT BY ITSELF OK BUT KINDA PICKS AT UNTIL HE KNOWS HE NOT GETTING SOMETHING ELSE. Rice and Duck - Dog Food - USDA-inspected Deboned Duck is leaner than traditional red meats and close in nutritional make-up to other poultry.  The choice of duck offers a host of other benefits.  Duck is also high in protein and niacin, an essential B Vitamin.  Once again, our deboned duck has the same delicious taste and exceptional quality as that from any grocery store.

Holistic practitioners agree that, the common factor with most allergy-afflicted pets is a diet comprised of unnatural foods that often contain chemical additives, preservatives, and flavorings. For dogs that are currently suffering from an allergic reaction or breeds prone to one or more of these challenges, Wellness has developed Simple Food Solutions.

Large Breed Adult Health - Dog Food
    - With grand scale and greater weight, your large breed dog has a unique physical composition that creates special nutritional needs.

Obesity is a Bigger Challenge for Large Breeds
Extra weight puts extra stress on a large frame, so it's important for your dog to feel satiated without consuming excess calories. With moderate fat, this recipe helps control energy intake allowing your dog to eat enough and still maintain a healthy weight every day.

Small Digestive Tracts Relative to Body Size
It is important for large breeds to easily digest and process food. We include live, naturally-occurring micro-organisms to support digestive health and we ensure optimal nutrient absorption through our Digestool™ confirmation studies - less nutrients in the stool, means more nutrients in the body.

    Higher Percentage of Muscle Mass
With greater size, there is more muscle to support and keep strong so we use 13% more protein than our Super5Mix Complete Health Recipe with 4 quality animal protein sources.

    Need to Keep Joints Healthy
Carrying an average weight of 100 pounds is hard work. To help keep joints healthy, this recipe features our WellFlex® System - 750 mg/kg of glucosamine hydrochloride and 250 mg/kg of chondroitin sulfate.

Large Breeds Tend to Eat Too Fast
This bigger, rounder kibble is designed to promote proper chewing time in larger mouths. We also guarantee your dog will love the taste of each healthy, flavorful bite. Outstanding fiber source for healthy digestion. A naturally rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids.

Wellness Pet Food  Made in the USA

Large Breed Puppy Health - Dog Food - With a longer growth cycle and faster potential growth rate, your large breed puppy has a unique physical composition that creates special nutritional needs.

    Controlled Bone Development
Optimal skeletal development depends on appropriate amounts of calcium and phosphorus. We carefully control these mineral levels and then guarantee their accuracy on every bag - so you can be sure your puppy will grow strong bones at the right pace.

    Paced, Steady Growth Rate
With a potential growth up to 100 times their birth weight, a large breed puppy's energy intake must be regulated to ensure consistent, steady growth. That's why this special recipe controls calories with 20% less fat than Super5Mix Just for Puppy.

The Right Start to a Healthy Weight
With more weight on larger frames, maintaining ideal body condition is a big concern. Since lean muscle is the foundation of healthy weight, this recipe has 26% protein with 4 quality animal protein sources to help develop strong, lean muscle.

    DHA to Support Brain Development
Smart and trainable, large breed dogs often grow up to lead and serve. To help support cognitive development vital to training, we use salmon meal and salmon oil to provide DHA, a fatty acid normally found in their mother's milk.

    50% Longer Growth Cycle
Some large breeds are considered puppies for up to 24 months so they need a healthy food that tastes great day after day. With satisfaction guaranteed, we use deboned chicken and whitefish to provide a natural taste that puppies love.

To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

How to Feed Your Puppy: As puppies grow up they need to learn when, where and how to eat. Depending on age, puppies need to be fed at the same time and in the same place 2 - 4 times per day. Food should be removed after 20 minutes, if not eaten. In the beginning, puppy's food can be moistened with a little warm water. It is very important that your puppy not overeat, as this can lead to skeletal development issues in large breeds.

We have a 10 month old German Shepherd puppy, MAJEK, who isn't much of a foodie, so what she eats has to have exceptional value. She seems to enjoy Wellness for Large Breeds more than some of the other premium brands she has had during food rotation every 3 months or so and food blends. She has one large meal of kibble/can and one smaller meal of raw/raw bones daily. She has maintained nice slow steady growth and is currently 62 pounds. We are expecting her to finish around 70 pounds and we expect to have her on a large breed puppy food for at least another year.

Transitioning to Wellness: It is important to slowly transition your dog from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

Determining Feeding Portions: Looking at the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your dog per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Wellness believes in feeding dry and wet food in combination whenever possible to help increase the level of water in your dog's diet.

Nutrition is only one part of the equation! Be sure to give your dog plenty of love, plenty of exercise and see your veterinarian regularly to help ensure total wellness.

I've only been feeding it to my miniature Schnauzer for a short while, so I don't know how it will do long-term. She eats it, but acts like she is still hungry. Runs to my little toy dog's bowl to see if there's anything left! (No luck--the little one scarfs it all down....) I wish this formula had more protein and less grain. The food she was eating before I put her on this one had 28% protein, so I wonder if she's getting enough now with just 17%.

Calories: This food contains 3,800 kcal per kilogram or 450 kcal per cup ME (metabolizable energy) on an as fed basis (calculated).

Transitioning to Wellness: It is important to slowly transition your PUPPY from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.

How to Feed Your Puppy - As puppies grow up they need to learn when, where and how to eat. Depending on age, puppies need to be fed at the same time and in the same place 2-4 times per day. Food should be removed after 20 minutes, if not eaten. In the beginning, puppy's food can be moistened with a little warm water.

Determining Feeding Portions: Looking at the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your puppy per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Wellness believes in feeding dry and wet food in combination whenever possible to help increase the level of water in your puppy's diet.

Nutrition is only one part of the equation! Be sure to give your puppy plenty of love, plenty of exercise and see your veterinarian regularly to help ensure total wellness.

Recommended Feeding Portions (Based on a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup)
Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information below as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed.

    For Pregnant or Nursing Dogs:
Since DHA is transferred to puppies in mother's milk, we recommend feeding this during pregnancy and nursing. When pregnant, feed up to 50% more food according to body weight at 12 mos. For nursing dogs, allow her to eat at will.

    Combination Feeding
If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/3 cup for every 6 oz of wet food.

This is the best dog food that I have ever fed to my 2 Rotties and 1 Lab. I feed mostly raw, fresh and this is my supporting, quick component to their diet. My o lder (10 1/2 yr) rottie has never had so much energy - you hit the mark with this one! I also feed the Puppy version of Horizon - slightly higher protein - a great addition to our program. All coats are fantastic. Thanks!

Our dog usually has stomach and loose stools when we change food brands, but not with Legacy by Horizon. We are able to give our Silky Terrier Legacy one day and Instinct the next day without issue.
