Pets today suffer from all kinds of food allergies and sensitivities. These can manifest themselves in the form of itchy or dry skin, ear infections, soft or sloppy stool or a host of other problems. Elimination diets are formulas which limit the number of ingredients while selecting unique and novel protein, carbohydrate and oil sources. Selecting novel proteins, oil and carbohydrates and limiting the number of ingredients the pet is exposed to, is the first line of defence against allergies and food intolerances.

ORIJEN Adult Dog Food - Biologically Appropriate for All Breeds
By nature, all dogs are facultative carnivores - they thrive on a varied diet of meats with smaller amounts of fruits, vegetables and grasses, and are biologically adapted to process proteins as an energy source.
High-protein and low-carbohydrate, ORIJEN ADULT's grain-free formula replicates the same rich balance of meats, fruits, vegetables and grasses that dogs would encounter in a wilderness setting.
Fresh Regional Ingredients - Fresh boneless chicken, chicken meal, turkey meal, russet potato, fresh pacific salmon (a natural source of DHA and EPA), herring meal, sweet potato, peas, fresh lake whitefish, fresh northern walleye, chicken fat (naturally preserved with vitamin E and citric acid), chicken liver, salmon meal, fresh turkey, fresh whole eggs, fresh deboned herring, sun-cured alfalfa, salmon oil, pumpkin, carrots, spinach, turnip greens, apples, cranberries, sea salt
ORIJEN ADULT DOG has a Metabolizable Energy (ME) of 3900 kcal/kg or 450 kcal/250ml cup, with 50% from protein, 25% from fruit & vegetables and 25% from fat.
I was excited to feed this to my dogs, as I researched and found it to be a top-notch dog food. Unfortunately, this didn't bode well with my two lhasa apso's. Apparently, they are allergic to it, resulting in non stop itching. Plus, their stool was very soft (creamy texture). I switched their food to Wellness Simple Solutions, and the itching stopped. Their stools are also solid . I'm not saying this is a horrible dog food, as you can see, many people are happy with it. I'm saying that this didn't do too well with my dogs.

Excellent quality. Both my dogs gobbled it up. This product was recently rated the low glycemic award for the best dog food. Measure by weight to be sure it's euqivalent to measure of previous food or you will notice blood sugar is up in diabetic pet. You actually may get more food per measured cup due to small pellet size. Only con is I'd prefer less or no glucosamine supplement in ingredients.

My dog is your typical dog - she will eat anything, anytime, anywhere. We had her on a store brand for a while which she always gobbled up, but after extensive research we switched to this about 6 months ago. She loves it SO much that if we ever try to substitute anything else for it (like if we're bad parents and have forgotten to order another bag before we run out) she will not eat! This is from a dog who historically has no problems eating anything edible so it just speaks volumes on how excellent this food is and the caliber of quality it delivers. We introduced it slowly (mixed with her previous food for about a week) and at first she had a little gas, which is natural, but it's helped immensely with her breath, given her even MORE energy (she is 9 but still acts like a puppy!) and also made her poo more solid which makes it easier to pick up. It's a little pricey, but one 30 lb bag typically lasts us about 2 months (1 feeding/day) and shipping is free! I would recommend in it a heartbeat!

We have an 83 pound dog and feed her the amount for a 44 pound dog and she even gained 2 pounds.

Before Grain is a return to your dog’s ancestral diet while recognizing it’s modern day urban lifestyle. It contains meat protein sources, healthy fruits, and vegetables - no grains, fillers, by products, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. Complete with a 32% baseline that is a practical and balanced percentage for the everyday diet that is more optimally processed by sensitive internal organs such as the kidneys. Contains about 38% meat after cooking removes most of the water content.
How much food your dog eats each day is dependent upon size, level of activity, stage of reproduction, and environment. When feeding in measured amounts, feed according to the weight of your dog.
I put my 4 year old boxer on this food after she gained weight on another brand ( it was very high protein and high fat). This dog runs with me approximately 25 miles per week, so she needs quality nutrition. The Before Grain meets her nutritional needs while allowing her to maintain a more healthy weight. And best of all- she loves it!

Active Care - Healthy Joint Formula - Chicken Meal and Brown Rice - Dry Dog Food
What makes the Active Care Chicken & Brown Rice different is natural chicken cartilage and our patented method of obtaining it. Many dog foods have taken an easy leap onto the healthy joint bandwagon by adding varying amounts of synthetic forms of chondroitin and glucosamine then claiming to promote good joint health. Natural chicken cartilage provides the all-important GAGs in an all natural stable form so there are no chemical side effects. With natural chicken cartilage, Active Care was specifically created to maintain good joint health.

2yo Australian Shepherd
Her coat has never been better, and I've fed a range of top quality foods. It's incredible how water just sheets off of her when she gets out of the pool. She's also down to one poop a day, which is good for her and convenient for us as well.

I was feeding another food which was higher in protein but my adult Border Collie did not thrive on it. My adult collie has a lusterous coat and gained weight on California Chicken which can be difficult for a border collie so I gave my new baby border California for Puppies and she is shiny and soft. Both of them seem to prefer the taste of my friend's dog's junk food over thier California but I'm guessing it's either added sugar, artificial flavoring, or some kind of fat. Just like I like junk food better than what's good for me sometimes. They still like the taste enough that they eat it all gone and seem really healthy and not too border crazy like on other higher protein foods. Plus it's one of the more affordable foods. Last but not least is that thier stools seem firm and they don't get upset tummies like they do with some other foods. I love this product and feel like I'm doing right by them.

At CANIDAE Pet Foods we have created our All Life Stage Formulas for your dogs called CANIDAE. This dog food formula is true, All Natural, All Life Stages, feral type diets that provide optimum nutrition for the ones you love.
In nature your pets couldn’t choose between a puppy, adult, or light formulation, only a diet of mainly meats and small amounts of grain. They simply eat more or less, depending on age and activity levels. CANIDAE and FELIDAE both contain more than 50% of high quality meat proteins. We have also included digestive enzymes that closely resemble those found in nature.

Puppies up to 6 months old may be fed 3 to 4 times daily. Puppies six months to a year may be fed twice daily.
Feed Pregnant Dogs up to 50% more during the last 3 weeks of pregnancy. Nursing mothers require twice the amount of food as suggested in the daily guidelines and may be fed 3 to 4 times a day.
The above Daily Feeding Guidelines are a good starting point on the amount of food suggested to be fed on a daily basis. If you feed more than once per day, simply divide the Daily Feeding Guidelines by the amount of times fed per day.
Dogs love it. Produces good solid waste and shiny healthy coat.

My Golden Retriever loves it. But he likes most anything. He is not a picky eater. The small kibble encourages him to eat slower.

We use this as a treat, rather than a primary food, because the calcium content is too high for my large breed pup - so I can't comment on quality as a primary source of nutrition - but he LOVES the flavor. It's one of few kibbles he'll eat dry without canned or homemade toppers.
