Puppy Food - All puppies need a specific diet to enhance their development at this critical first stage in their lives. The diet typically consists of added proteins and specific formulations to assist with this important process.
Chicken and Rice Formula - Small/Medium Breed Puppy Food
NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy Chicken and Rice Formula is ideal for growing small and medium breed puppies (breeds that mature at less than 50 lbs.). NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy Food contains the higher levels of protein and fat needed by small and medium breed puppies and is formed to smaller, bite size shapes making it easier for small dogs to eat. NutriSource is made with real chicken and no chicken by-products. NutriSource combines chicken, rice and carefully selected ingredients in the precise blend to promote balanced growth and optimum health for small and medium breed puppies. NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy food also supplies complete and balanced nutrition for gestating and lactating females. Feed NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy food to your Small/Medium Breed Puppy from weaning until your dog reaches it's mature body weight and size, usually at about one year.

These guideline amounts are a starting point. Begin feeding puppies NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy food when they begin to nibble, usually 3 to 4 weeks of age. Keep moistened food available at all times until puppies are weaned. After weaning, feed moistened or dry several times per day. Decrease feeding times and amounts as puppy grows, ending with a routine of two regular feedings per day. Vary the amounts to suit the age, growth stage and activity level to maintain optimum weight. One 8 ounce measuring cup contains 4.4 ounces/125 grams of NutriSource Small and Medium Breed Puppy. Provide clean, fresh drinking water daily.
My 5 month old cock-a-poo loves it. He digest it much better than the all natural brand we had from the pet store.

My Frenchie has been eating this food since she was a pup. Loves it. I tried several grain free foods because she was having allergy issues, but she did not eat those foods with much enthusiasm. Since discovering the source of her allergies, she's been back on Nutrosource and eating regularly again.

Puppies usually begin eating solid food at 4-6 weeks of age. Food should be moistened with water, milk, or broth. Feed puppies three times a day until four months of age. Then feed two times a day thereafter. We recommend splitting the following daily amounts (cups) between two or three feedings. For larger breed puppies, we recommend our Wolf Cub Large Breed Puppy brand.

We have used Solid Gold for years with our older dogs, but this is our first time buying the puppy formula. Our puppy LOVES it, just like all the other Solid Gold products our dogs have eaten. It's a great product.

Do NOT get this product if you have small or medium sized puppies. The kibble is HUGE! I breed both small and medium sized breeds and this is far too big for either.

Puppy loves the food. Recommended by the breeder.

My puppies liked this food and for sure it's a high quality food... BUT for small breed puppies the size is a little too big and hard for them to chew. I prefer the Artemis small breed puppy food. The size is perfect and it's not as hard. I also like the Orijen puppy food. The pieces are larger than Artemis but they are flat, so they have no probelm chewing them.

A puppy's nutritional needs vary from breed to breed, and even litter mates will eat different amounts. Because puppies experience growth spurts, pay close attention to your puppy's food consumption and its overall condition.

This is the puppy food my dog's breeder recommended. My pup has grown in at slow and steady rate. However, in spite of the excellent ingredients and ratings, my pup had fairly soft stools while on this food. Your mileage may vary, it IS a really good food, something just did not agree with my pup.

Large Breed Puppy Health - Dog Food - With a longer growth cycle and faster potential growth rate, your large breed puppy has a unique physical composition that creates special nutritional needs.
Controlled Bone Development Optimal skeletal development depends on appropriate amounts of calcium and phosphorus. We carefully control these mineral levels and then guarantee their accuracy on every bag - so you can be sure your puppy will grow strong bones at the right pace.
Paced, Steady Growth Rate With a potential growth up to 100 times their birth weight, a large breed puppy's energy intake must be regulated to ensure consistent, steady growth. That's why this special recipe controls calories with 20% less fat than Super5Mix Just for Puppy.
The Right Start to a Healthy Weight With more weight on larger frames, maintaining ideal body condition is a big concern. Since lean muscle is the foundation of healthy weight, this recipe has 26% protein with 4 quality animal protein sources to help develop strong, lean muscle.
DHA to Support Brain Development Smart and trainable, large breed dogs often grow up to lead and serve. To help support cognitive development vital to training, we use salmon meal and salmon oil to provide DHA, a fatty acid normally found in their mother's milk.
50% Longer Growth Cycle Some large breeds are considered puppies for up to 24 months so they need a healthy food that tastes great day after day. With satisfaction guaranteed, we use deboned chicken and whitefish to provide a natural taste that puppies love.

Transitioning to Wellness: It is important to slowly transition your puppy from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.
How to Feed Your Puppy: As puppies grow up they need to learn when, where and how to eat. Depending on age, puppies need to be fed at the same time and in the same place 2 - 4 times per day. Food should be removed after 20 minutes, if not eaten. In the beginning, puppy's food can be moistened with a little warm water. It is very important that your puppy not overeat, as this can lead to skeletal development issues in large breeds.
Determining Feeding Portions: Looking at the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your puppy per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Wellness believes in feeding dry and wet food in combination whenever possible to help increase the level of water in your puppy's diet.
Recommended Feeding Portions (Based on a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup)
Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information below as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed.

For dogs over 100 lbs: Add ¼ cup per additional 10 lbs.
For Pregnant or Nursing Dogs: Since DHA is transferred to puppies in mother's milk, we recommend feeding this during pregnancy and nursing. During this time allow her to eat at will.
Combination Feeding If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/3 cup for every 6 oz of wet food.
Nutrition is only one part of the equation! Be sure to give your puppy plenty of love, plenty of exercise and see your veterinarian regularly to help ensure total wellness.
My pup (a great pyrenees) started having loose stool after I began feeding him this. Ingrediants say it is a good food, but it didn't work out for him and made house breaking that much harder.

We have a 10 month old German Shepherd puppy, MAJEK, who isn't much of a foodie, so what she eats has to have exceptional value. She seems to enjoy Wellness for Large Breeds more than some of the other premium brands she has had during food rotation every 3 months or so and food blends. She has one large meal of kibble/can and one smaller meal of raw/raw bones daily. She has maintained nice slow steady growth and is currently 62 pounds. We are expecting her to finish around 70 pounds and we expect to have her on a large breed puppy food for at least another year.
