Healthy Skin and Coat on the Outside Healthy Dog on the Inside
As dog lovers and experienced dog owners ourselves, we know that the condition of a dog’s skin and coat is frequently a reflection of overall health. Poor skin health can sometimes be traced to dietary insufficiencies or imbalances. Problems with the skin and coat are never just cosmetic. Symptoms such as hair loss, thinning coat, dullness, dry flaky skin, excessive scratching, thickened skin, infections, and odors can often be traced back to either a shortage or an excess of a specific nutrient. In fact, there is no more visible indicator of problems with your dog’s overall health than problems with the skin and coat. The right nutrients in the right proportions are indispensable to keeping your dog healthy.

AvoDerm Natural is pressure cooked to ensure your dog receives optimum nutrition from the highest quality ingredients. AvoDerm Natural is naturally formulated to be complete and balanced with added vitamins, minerals, and other essential ingredients for all stages of your dog’s life.

Allow your puppy to free feed until fully weaned (approximately 6 to 8 weeks). After weaning, your puppy can be fed AvoDerm Natural moistened or dry.  Develop a regular feeding schedule starting with 3 small meals a day for younger puppies. As your puppy gets a little older, gradually reduce the feeding to twice a day. As your puppy reaches 1 year, they may not eat as much and this is normal.  Start to reduce the amount fed to ensure proper weight maintenance to prevent overeating.

It is now well established that high intake of protein and fat during growth can lead to health problems in adult dogs. Obesity and skeletal disorders, especially hip dysphasia are more common ailments associated with excesses. Rapid growth can result in excessive muscle mass putting strain on immature bones.

Free Feeding is not Recommended.
Dog should be fed to satisfy energy requirement and no more.
Variations on the amounts below are dependant on age, if neutered or spayed and amount of exercise etc

Weight of dog
2 – 11 lbs          ¼ - ½ cup
11 – 22lb           ½ - 1 cup
22 – 44lb           1 – 1 ¾ cups
44 – 66lb           1 ¾ - 2 ½ cups
66 – 110lbs        2 ½ - 3 ½  cups
Feeding amounts are measured by an 8 oz. kitchen measuring cup.

This is the only food that doesn't give my dog diarrhea

3. Debra on 8/30/2008, said:

I was feeding another food which was higher in protein but my adult Border Collie did not thrive on it. My adult collie has a lusterous coat and gained weight on California Chicken which can be difficult for a border collie so I gave my new baby border California for Puppies and she is shiny and soft. Both of them seem to prefer the taste of my friend's dog's junk food over thier California but I'm guessing it's either added sugar, artificial flavoring, or some kind of fat. Just like I like junk food better than what's good for me sometimes. They still like the taste enough that they eat it all gone and seem really healthy and not too border crazy like on other higher protein foods. Plus it's one of the more affordable foods. Last but not least is that thier stools seem firm and they don't get upset tummies like they do with some other foods. I love this product and feel like I'm doing right by them.

4. Sara on 7/2/2008, said:

Dogs ate this dry and loved it! I have ordered more.

The kibble is so tiny (like beebees) so it was perfect for a training treat that wouldn't fill my chihuahua up, and tasty enough to keep her focused! It was also a great size for the orbie treat dispenser that won't let go of anything larger.

These feeding guidelines are suggested only, feeding amounts may vary by breed, activity and temperament. Dogs begin to consume solid food before they are weaned. Soften Horizon Complete Puppy food with water and offer it 'free-choice' with plenty of fresh water from about 4 weeks of age. Each breed is unique, however after 40 weeks it is not necessary to continue feeding a puppy formula.

My dog loved it! I mix it with Orijen, and that works well.

2. Michael on 10/19/2009, said:

Only been on it a couple weeks but seems to agree with him; beautiful coat; full of energy, good stools. He's happy! I'm happy

3. Jean on 10/1/2009, said:

This is the best dog food that I have ever fed to my 2 Rotties and 1 Lab. I feed mostly raw, fresh and this is my supporting, quick component to their diet. My o lder (10 1/2 yr) rottie has never had so much energy - you hit the mark with this one! I also feed the Puppy version of Horizon - slightly higher protein - a great addition to our program. All coats are fantastic. Thanks!

Our dog usually has stomach and loose stools when we change food brands, but not with Legacy by Horizon. We are able to give our Silky Terrier Legacy one day and Instinct the next day without issue.

Merrick Made in the USA

Puppy Plate - Dry Dog Food

It’s the first lick, the wobbly crawl and the cut on your finger from putting it in their mouth when you shouldn’t have. These soft, cuddly friends come into our lives, and we grow with them. They become our friends long before they are housebroken, stop tearing things up and crying in the middle of the night. So we cooked up a special dish with lots of TLC that we think transitions them nicely from their momma’s milk and welcomes them to earth but still with a firm handshake. At Merrick we call it Puppyhood and without Merrick in their life, well it’s pretty much boredom. So skip the national grocery brands and stop sheltering them because they’re gonna grow up sooner or later and find Merrick on their own so you might as well have the “talk” now. The Merrick’s say “send us some pics of the new pups and we’ll add them to our album.”

How much food your dog eats is dependent upon size, level of activity, stage of reproduction, and environment. When feeding in measured amounts, feed according to the weight of your dog. Use this table as a GENERAL GUIDE to determine how much Merrick Five-Star Gourmet to feed your dog.

*For dogs over 100 lbs.. add 1/2 cup of dry dog food for each additional 10 lbs. Adjust feeding level to your dog's individual needs. Puppies and nursing females may consume two or three times the recommended amount per day. Keep fresh water available at all times.

Puppies loved it! They're eating 'em up! One dog doesn't like the the dried veggies, but the addition of the new puppy produces food pressures, and now they both eat their veggies. Yey!

would like it to come in small bites size.

2. Stephanie on 8/20/2009, said:

I have a Great Dane puppy and an English Bulldog puppy on this food and they both are doing wonderful on the food. I like the fact that it is grain free, but the protein levels are not too high for large breed dogs. They love the taste and their stools have been firm since the first feeding.

3. Alexandra on 8/11/2009, said:

Puppies didn't love it, I had to entice to get them to even start eating it. Not worth the effort, ingredients are inferior to Orijen Puppy.

4. Renee on 4/7/2009, said:

My puppy really likes it and seems to be doing very well with it. She's a high energy border collie pup and this keeps her at a good weight.

5. Melanie on 2/4/2009, said:

The food was fine however the expiration date was not. I received a bag of food in January with and expiration date of March 09.
