The kibble is so tiny (like beebees) so it was perfect for a training treat that wouldn't fill my chihuahua up, and tasty enough to keep her focused! It was also a great size for the orbie treat dispenser that won't let go of anything larger.

I was feeding another food which was higher in protein but my adult Border Collie did not thrive on it. My adult collie has a lusterous coat and gained weight on California Chicken which can be difficult for a border collie so I gave my new baby border California for Puppies and she is shiny and soft. Both of them seem to prefer the taste of my friend's dog's junk food over thier California but I'm guessing it's either added sugar, artificial flavoring, or some kind of fat. Just like I like junk food better than what's good for me sometimes. They still like the taste enough that they eat it all gone and seem really healthy and not too border crazy like on other higher protein foods. Plus it's one of the more affordable foods. Last but not least is that thier stools seem firm and they don't get upset tummies like they do with some other foods. I love this product and feel like I'm doing right by them.

It sounds like an entrée at a fine restaurant, fresh trout and delicious sweet potatoes. But these are also a fine and delicious source of nutrition and that makes Pinnacle an excellent choice for active puppies and adult dogs. Good nutrition is about variety, and the variety of protein sources in Pinnacle —the trout, the potatoes, plus oatmeal and the organic grain quinoa— means all essential amino acids are here. It also means that complex carbohydrates, essential for energy, come from a variety of sources as well.

We could not be happier with this Pinnacle Holistic food! We didn't realize our yellow lab had a sensitive stomach until we switched him to this food and immediately noticed the absence of nightly dog farts. We hadn't given any thought to the fact that his food was causing the gas issue but now that the problem is solved, we wish we had realized it sooner!

Large Breed Puppy Health - Dog Food - With a longer growth cycle and faster potential growth rate, your large breed puppy has a unique physical composition that creates special nutritional needs.
Controlled Bone Development Optimal skeletal development depends on appropriate amounts of calcium and phosphorus. We carefully control these mineral levels and then guarantee their accuracy on every bag - so you can be sure your puppy will grow strong bones at the right pace.
Paced, Steady Growth Rate With a potential growth up to 100 times their birth weight, a large breed puppy's energy intake must be regulated to ensure consistent, steady growth. That's why this special recipe controls calories with 20% less fat than Super5Mix Just for Puppy.
The Right Start to a Healthy Weight With more weight on larger frames, maintaining ideal body condition is a big concern. Since lean muscle is the foundation of healthy weight, this recipe has 26% protein with 4 quality animal protein sources to help develop strong, lean muscle.
DHA to Support Brain Development Smart and trainable, large breed dogs often grow up to lead and serve. To help support cognitive development vital to training, we use salmon meal and salmon oil to provide DHA, a fatty acid normally found in their mother's milk.
50% Longer Growth Cycle Some large breeds are considered puppies for up to 24 months so they need a healthy food that tastes great day after day. With satisfaction guaranteed, we use deboned chicken and whitefish to provide a natural taste that puppies love.

Transitioning to Wellness: It is important to slowly transition your puppy from his/her current diet as it takes a few days for the body to adapt to the new nutrient levels. To transition, gradually mix in the new food over a 5-7 day period, increasing the amount of Wellness each day, so that you are feeding 100% Wellness by day 7.
How to Feed Your Puppy: As puppies grow up they need to learn when, where and how to eat. Depending on age, puppies need to be fed at the same time and in the same place 2 - 4 times per day. Food should be removed after 20 minutes, if not eaten. In the beginning, puppy's food can be moistened with a little warm water. It is very important that your puppy not overeat, as this can lead to skeletal development issues in large breeds.
Determining Feeding Portions: Looking at the chart below, divide the total cups per day by the total number of times you feed your puppy per day to determine the portion size for each meal. Keep a clean bowl of fresh water available at all times. Wellness believes in feeding dry and wet food in combination whenever possible to help increase the level of water in your puppy's diet.
Recommended Feeding Portions (Based on a standard 8 oz dry measuring cup)
Every dog is a little different, so optimal feeding amounts may vary with age, size and activity level. Please use the information below as an initial recommendation only and adjust when needed.

For dogs over 100 lbs: Add ¼ cup per additional 10 lbs.
For Pregnant or Nursing Dogs: Since DHA is transferred to puppies in mother's milk, we recommend feeding this during pregnancy and nursing. During this time allow her to eat at will.
Combination Feeding If feeding with wet food, reduce dry amount by 1/3 cup for every 6 oz of wet food.
Nutrition is only one part of the equation! Be sure to give your puppy plenty of love, plenty of exercise and see your veterinarian regularly to help ensure total wellness.
We have a 10 month old German Shepherd puppy, MAJEK, who isn't much of a foodie, so what she eats has to have exceptional value. She seems to enjoy Wellness for Large Breeds more than some of the other premium brands she has had during food rotation every 3 months or so and food blends. She has one large meal of kibble/can and one smaller meal of raw/raw bones daily. She has maintained nice slow steady growth and is currently 62 pounds. We are expecting her to finish around 70 pounds and we expect to have her on a large breed puppy food for at least another year.

ORIJEN Puppy Food - Biologically Appropriate for All Breeds and Sizes
By nature, puppies are facultative carnivores - they thrive on a varied diet of meats with smaller amounts of fruits, vegetables and grasses, and are biologically adapted to process proteins as an energy source.
High in protein and low in carbohydrate, ORIJEN PUPPY's grain-free formula replicates the same rich and diverse balance of meats, fruits, vegetables and grasses that puppies and young dogs would encounter in a wilderness setting.
ORIJEN PUPPY has a Metabolizable Energy (ME) of 4200 kcal/kg or 480 kcal per 250ml cup (120g). Calories are distributed to promote peak physical conditioning with 40% from protein, 20% from fruit & vegetables and 40% from fat.
Biologically Appropriate ORIJEN PUPPY naturally nourishes puppies of all breeds and sizes. This high-protein, low-carbohydrate puppy food mirrors the original canine diet and naturally satiates appetite - so expect to feed less than you would of conventional pet foods.
As each puppy is different, feeding requirements will vary with size, environment, age and activity. Feed twice daily and always keep fresh, clean water available.

My dog's pick in a 12 food taste test! Out of all the foods he sampled, he ate this one with the most enthusiasm and this was the first he finished.
Only wish is that this food came in a small bites size! He did struggle a bit with the large size of the kibbles (although that didn't keep him from eating it).

It is now well established that high intake of protein and fat during growth can lead to health problems in adult dogs. Obesity and skeletal disorders, especially hip dysphasia are more common ailments associated with excesses. Rapid growth can result in excessive muscle mass putting strain on immature bones.
