With a farm smack dab in the middle of “cherry country”, they had heard for years about how the wonderful properties of tart cherries help to maintain healthy hips and joints. In the summer of 2003, some friends recommended they try tart cherry concentrate, and they were right! They were kickin’ and rarin’ to go!
They wondered – why does tart cherry concentrate carry such a powerful punch? While asking a few folks at their leading university, they discovered that researchers have been asking the same questions – and even patented their discoveries. Overby Farm licensed these patents and got to work!
Their challenge was to figure out a great way to pass on the healthy benefits of tart cherries to their four-legged buddies. That’s when the fun began! They started chopping, mixing and baking in their own farm kitchen in Leelanau County (with their Labs Lucy and Abbey as their taste testers) and that’s when Hip Bones™ ~ The Original CHERRY Dog Treat™ were born!
Hip Bones™ are now distributed throughout the U.S., and the benefits attributed to tart cherries continue to spread and grow as their population chooses natural and functional foods to support healthier lifestyles.
Working closely with their university experts and practicing veterinarians, Overby Farm has continued to formulate products specifically for the active and aging canine.
