Verve - Original recipe! This premium organic dog food is ideal for adult maintenance, for dogs who do well with some grains in their diets. Verve is a low fat., low calorie formula, with beef as the protein source. Verve is a combination of 100% human food grade organic rolled barley, organic rolled rye, beef, organic rolled oats, organic flaxseed, carrots, alfalfa, potatoes, eggs, spinach, red and green bell peppers, apples, chicory, parsley, cranberries, rosemary, peppermint, vitamins and minerals.

Vitamins and minerals Verve contains the following, 100% human food grade, vitamin-mineral premix: tricalcium phosphate, choline chloride, zinc amino acid chelate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, potassium chloride, iron amino acid chelate, copper amino acid chelate.
Hydration Each dry-measured cup should be mixed with 1 to 1.5 cups of warm water, and will yield about 1lb of fresh food. The fresh food consistency will resemble oatmeal or stew.

Hydrate with fresh, warm water. After hydration, a process that takes just 5 to 10 minutes, these foods should be consumed right away. Any leftover food should be treated like fresh food, and refrigerated up to 48 hours or discarded.

Health Verve is a stand-alone diet. Additional foods can be added to these suggested serving sizes if desired. If you choose to add ingredients, we suggest adding about half a cup of home-prepared ingredients for each dry-measured cup of food. For convenience, all our feeding guidelines are based on dry-measured cups.
Storage Dehydrated foods should be stored in a cool, dry place. Our products have a shelf life of twelve months or more, depending upon ambient temperature and humidity. The date of manufacture is printed on all packages.The containers should be closed tightly between meals. We recommend thoroughly cleaning and drying our re-usable buckets, prior to refilling.
Have both a rottie and a greyhound mix and both loved this food, particularly the rottie who was very impatient for it to plump up in the warm water for the 5-10 minutes. Our rottie usually has fairly loose stools no matter what food he's on, but this gave him a much better stool that stunk a lot less.

The only reason I can't give it 5 stars overall is that I have a 125lb dog and we go through it very quickly, making it an expensive choice for us.

I have two older dogs (9 and 14), and they both LOVE Verve. I add it to their dry dog food, and it has been a real hit! After years of experimenting with various other foods (cottage cheese, etc.), it is great to be able to offer something that is good for them, not tested on animals, easy to use, and evidently really tasty. I had purchased Verve for my dogs at one point in time and I did like it. The quality of Honest kitchen products is high and always smells fresh. The food was readily eaten and their stool was good. Although I like Verve, I am moving away from any grain based foods and working towards a raw food diet. I did buy this for my friend's dogs to see what she thought and she was overjoyed at how her guys dove in to it. For her, this would be a totational with raw foods. I gave only 3 stars for the food only because of the grain. For those who choose to feed grain, this is a great food to add fresh meat to for a hearty, rib sticking meal.
